Why WellyTails

Why Does My Fur Child Need WELLYTAILS?

What Kinds Of Natural Health Promoting And Health Protecting “Natural Health Factors” Could Be Missing Or Lacking In Your Pet Family Member’s Food?

The kinds of natural health vital nutrient factors missing or lacking because they have been destroyed or bioavailability seriously damaged because of high temperature processing or because of corporate profit maximization they were never added include:

All 3 Omega-3 (ALA, DHA, EPA) Essential Fatty Acids plus GLA Omega-6 prevents dry itchy skin & shedding dull coats/fur as well as support health of the brain, eye, nerves, provides pain reducing anti-inflammatory benefits as well as protection from cancers.

New clinical research is proving that Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) & Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) Omega-3 from the body fat of fatty fish (salmon, sardines, herring, menhaden, anchovies) deliver superior health benefits above and beyond those of Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) Omega-3 from plant (flax seed, chia seed) sources alone.

WellyTails  delivers ALL of the Omegas – Omega-3’s ALA, DHA & EPA + GLA Omega-6 “The Good Omega-6” + Omega-9

Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) Omega-6;”The Good” Omega-6 Factor Is Lacking

Even natural and organic cat and dog foods have TOO MUCH of the wrong type, Linoleic Acid (LA), of Omega-6 type fatty acids in them. Too much of the WRONG type, LA Omega-6 causes inflammation and pain and contributes to the development of long-term diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and possibly increased risk of infection because of immunity suppressing effects. This BAD Omega-6 fatty acid is the main omega-6 fatty acid in vegetable oils (corn, soy, canola, sunflower) which are used as cheap way to add caloric energy values to pet foods.

WellyTails  delivers ALL of the Omegas – Omega-3’s ALA, DHA & EPA + GLA Omega-6 “The Good Omega-6” + Omega-9

Beneficial Friendly Probiotic Bacteria Factors Are Lacking

Probiotic Bacteria  are alive, naturally occurring friendly bacteria that contribute to a healthy intestinal environment working to help maximize the population of “good” bacteria and reducing the damage caused from “bad” toxin producing bacteria, yeast and fungi in the lower gut. Probiotics also help to enhance overall immune system health.

These PROBIOTICS , which means “for life,” that naturally help boost your pet’s immune system and diminish the growth of bad bacteria are killed off by the high processing temperatures of today’s modern pet foods. Our pets do not get a range of beneficial probiotic bacteria and are more vulnerable to pathogenic bacteria and yeast infections.

Recent scientific research clearly indicates that prebiotics and probiotics added to pet’s diets have very positive immune boosting responses. More pets today are kept indoors and are not able to naturally pick up beneficial soil bacteria from the surrounding environment or kill and eat the stomach contents of fresh killed wild animals. Daily dietary supplementation is required to get the best benefits that probiotics have to offer.

WellyTails  delivers a mix of 6 clinically proven unique types of probiotic bacteria: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Bacillus licheniformis GG-0260, Bacillus subtilis GG-0227, Bifido bacterium bifidium, Enterococcus faecium and 1 clinically research proven probiotic yeast: Saccharomyces cerevisiae type boulardii registered at the Pasteur Institute collection. All delivered in effective clinical labelled dosages.

Prebiotics Factors Are Lacking

Prebiotics create a gut environment that is very conducive to the growth and maintenance of friendly beneficial gut bacteria. They are non-digestible food ingredients that selectively stimulate or support the growth of specific beneficial probiotic bacteria in the colon (large intestine) thus improving overall health.

WellyTails  delivers MOS a very specific combination of manno-oligosaccharides (MOS) and glucose (ß-glucans) extracted from the yeast cell walls of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. MOS are natural oligosaccharides, composed of various mannose chains, that block pathogen colonization within the digestive tract of the animal. ß-glucans, essential components of yeast cell walls, are particularly important to support the non-specific immune systems of cats and dogs.

Important Digestive Enzymes Factors Are Lacking

Enzymes are fragile biochemical catalysts that participate in nearly every reaction in digestion and reactions within the body. They are most often deactivated in the processing of pet foods. Enzymes help break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates making the foods easier to digest and make more of the nutrients available.

Important natural digestive enzymes that are present in raw meats have been denatured and destroyed by the high temperature processing. In fact meat meals  and meat powders (protein sources) are often high temperature processed TWO TIMES! The first time is when the meat is initially made into a meat powder or meat meal and the second time is when they are mixed with the grains and re-cooked in the high temperature kibble extrusion or canning process.

Grains (protein and carbohydrate sources) are often added in large amounts and are very difficult for cats and dogs to digest as grains are not a natural part of their diet. These heat denatured meats and difficult to digest grains lead to lowered metabolization of the food nutrients, slowed passage of the food through the animal’s digestive tract leading to micro-toxins being formed, digestive upset, bad breath, bloating, foul smelling flatulence and feces.

WellyTails  delivers a very unique and effective blend of digestive enzymes  Amylase, Bromelain (Protease), Cellulase, Lipase, Xylanase, Beta Glucanase, Hemicellulase combined with our probiotic and prebiotics and BioFix II which contains a binder to bind and hold aflatoxins, denature and detoxify mycotoxins and Zearalenone and contains plant phytosterols at low levels to support liver health – the organ most under stress in mycotoxin challenges. A multi combination package that is not surpassed by any stand alone enzyme or combination supplement available in the market today.

Highly Biologically Available Organic Chelated Zinc and Selenium Mineral Factors Are Lacking

Zinc and selenium minerals are critical to a great number of cellular functions and enzyme systems for optimum health. These organic chelated minerals are often thought of as being too expensive to use in the majority of pet food formulations by pet food manufacturers. These minerals also function as highly effective antioxidants in the body.

WellyTails delivers with two of the most researched and trusted brands available in the market ZinPro 100™ for our organic chelated zinc source and Sel-Plex 2000™ as our organic chelated selenium source

Natural Fruit And Vegetable Phytonutrient And Antioxidant Factors Are Lacking

Antioxidants help to maintain cellular health by neutralizing free radicals, these highly reactive molecules can cause cellular damage believed to be a cause of cancer.

Natural fruit and vegetable phytonutrients and antioxidants help to fight these cancer causing “free radicals” thus helping to prevent cancers from occurring. The amount of “Antioxidants” typically added to a pet food formulation is just enough to act as a preservative of the actual food but not enough to provide natural anti-cancer health factors. The high temperatures pet food processing, even of natural and organic cat and dog foods reduces the level of natural phytonutrients and antioxidants.

WellyTails delivers with Fruit Phytonutrients: Blueberry, Cranberry, Tart Red Cherry Concentrate; Vegetable Phytonutrients: Carrot Powder, Alfalfa Leaf, Atlantic Sea Kelp, Burdock Root Powder; Vitamin C; Vitamin E; All 3 Omega-3’s ALA, DHA & EPA plus GLA Omega-6; Organic Chelated Selenium

Buying Dry Kibble or Canned Natural, Organic, Premium, Super Premium Cat or Dog Food IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Buying kibble an organic, natural, premium or super premium cat or dog food is a very good idea however numerous dietary and health problems will still exist:

Although there is little argument that a professionally balanced macro and micro nutrient RAW food diet, “Biologically Appropriate Raw Food” (BARF) (1) diet or a “RAW MEATY BONES” (RMB) (2) diet would provide cats and dogs with OPTIMUM health; especially the Raw Meaty Bones diet as dental health is also optimized (3). The fact remains that most people find that they have to feed their dog or cat an affordable, safe and convenient easy to feed commercial canned or dry kibble pet food for a number of reasons.

Most families continue to choose canned and dry kibble foods, because they are lower in cost and very convenient to use in comparison to a BARF or a RMB diet. Many dog owners have tried feeding the BARF diet and have found it to be much too expensive or too messy or were concerned with E. Coli 0157:H7 or Salmonella  bacterial contamination, especially if they had young children in the family.

The lower cost and convenience of canned and dry kibble foods comes with a HIGH COST TO PET HEALTH. Pets are dying at younger ages than ever before and the incidence of food allergies, digestive problems, hot spots and itchy skin, hip and joint, and cancer problems are rising among our pet population.

Critical Digestive Factors Are Missing

The typical modern cat and dog food will contain LARGE AMOUNTS OF GRAINS that are not part of a cat’s or dog’s natural diet which are very difficult for the animals to digest. Slowed digestion processes can lead to a number of long term health problems.

Cats and dogs do not naturally have the appropriate digestive enzymes or quantity needed to deal with the complex grain starches and over processed and high temperature cooked nutrients found in grains and other plant material — whether those nutrients are raw or cooked.(4)  Heat processed foods lack critical enzyme catalysts and high numbers of friendly probiotic bacteria that are vital in delivering the full nutritional value of pet foods. Grains cooked at high temperatures, 125 to 180°C (250° – 360° F) at the modern pet food factory have their starches, proteins and fats denatured to varying degrees which slows down the digestion and speed at which the food passes through the digestive system and can create an environment in the gut that produces poisonous toxins.(5)  Pet foods are often loaded with artificial coloring agents, artificial preservatives, moisture controlling humectants and a number of other synthetic chemical additives, most with little or no nutritive value, compounding the problems of high temperature cooked grains, meats and double cooked meat meals or meat by-products.(6) Once they are produced in the lower gut of a cat or dog these toxins are absorbed into the blood stream and negatively affect various body organs and systems.

These poorly digested grain based pet foods (canned and dry kibble) can create an environment in the lower gut that supports a large population of toxin producing or pathogenic bacteria. The lower gut lining is constantly being exposed to a low level of these toxins (poisons) with their potential negative health effects. Some of these toxins will pass through the lower gut wall and into the blood stream where they can slowly damage critical organs like kidneys or the liver and create further problems.(7)

It is now clear and undeniable that pet’s immune systems and organs worn down by the long term toxic effects of a grain based high temperature processed diets are at a much higher risk of suffering from chronic diseases and their length of time to recovery from a veterinary procedure is most likely to be longer also.(8)

The Pet Food BU$INE$$

Least Cost Formulations = Less Healthy Foods & Maximum Profit

In the 1860s Jack Spratt, with Charles Cruft, opened the first commercial dog food business in England and started the concept of dog shows to be used by them as a marketing tool. (9)  Now BusinessWeek Magazine estimated that “Americans spend an astonishing $41 Billion a year on their furry friends”.(10)  Today $16 Billion is spent to feed our beloved pets. With the incentive of massive profits from brand loyal pet owners, the pet food industry’s marketing machine encourages us all to have “furry friends” and to buy their “least cost formulated” – minimum ingredient quality standard – pet foods. Consumers unwittingly then complete the mutually beneficial commercial circle by buying veterinary services to help fix their pet’s health problems or to prevent their premature death from kidney failure or cancer caused from feeding these grain based high temperature processed pet foods.

Keep in mind that two giant candy companies, Mars and Nestlé, make up the top rung, who battle for leadership supremacy of the pet food business. Mars now leads with brands such as PAL®, Pedigree®, Waltham®, Whiskas® and Royal Canin®. Nestlé spent a reported $10 billion buying Purina Brands – Purina®, Alpo® & Fancy Feast®.  Both Mars and Nestlé pet food brands cover the world and have huge expansion plans for developing nations spreading their products via globalization. (12), (13)

The second rung is made up of other large multinational corporations, Colgate-Palmolive – Hills Science Diet®, Procter & Gamble - IAMS® & EUKANUBA ®,  Del Monte – Meow Mix®, Kibbles ‘n Bits®, 9Lives®, and Milk-Bone® . These consumer packaged goods companies work hard at distinguishing themselves and their product brands however the facts show that there is a dangerous commonality about them all as was clearly shown in the recent Menu Foods pet foods recall.

Cats and dogs all across North America were getting sick and dying of acute kidney failure, all contaminated foods traced back to the same contracted pet food manufacturer, Menu Foods.(14)

Least Cost Formulation = Chinese Wheat Gluten with Melamine = Sick and Dying Pet Family Members

First reports erroneously thought that a rat poison had contaminated batches of “pet food” but as the story evolved it turned out that it was melamine, a chemical used for manufacturing plastic countertops, glues and fertilizer, which had been added into low cost Chinese wheat gluten shipments. The melamine adulterated wheat gluten affected almost 100 different brands from generic grocery store private label brands to premium brands. (15)

Chinese manufacturers of low cost wheat gluten added nitrogen rich melamine to increase the nitrogen content so they could get an artificially higher percent protein content analysis. It is morally and legally wrong to adulterate foods or feedstuffs with anything that is not legally permitted or poisonous for profit, however the pet food industry practice of “Least Cost Formulations”’ are also made with little or no regard for the health of our pets or proper incoming imported ingredient quality control.(16)

Pet food manufacturers create a least cost formulation of pet foods that meets the industry’s watchdog minimal standards for nutritional requirements. They then scour the globe for the absolute cheapest feedstuffs (mostly grain based by-products and meat by-products) and chemicals, blend together these lowest cost minimal standard materials and then high temperature process them in massive factory extruders and kettles and then package the same like product in different branded packages. These branded packages are labelled to tell pet owners that these are superior – special and health promoting products — advertise the brand heavily and say that these foods are the very best available and superior in every way. Meanwhile pets needlessly suffer and die prematurely while caring pet owners are stuck with the high cost of veterinary bills and the emotional loss of a family member.

It is very unlikely that these companies are unaware that by keeping their costs and quality minimized and profits maximized they are putting a massive emotional and financial cost burden on pet owners. Initially pet owners pay for the pet food products in good faith and then have to pay again for the inevitable veterinary treatments needed to treat health problems that the foods did not prevent or actually caused! Nestlé’s own research disclosed that the average lifespan of cats which were exclusively fed a commercial cat food and getting regular veterinary care was less than 12 years, death was usually from kidney failure or cancer.(17)

Mars company when promoting their Pedigree® bone-shaped dog chews, told veterinarians that “80% of dogs over the age of three have gum disease” and  “dental problems are known to increase with age and are increasingly being linked to vital organ disease — most notably kidneys and liver”.(18) “Chronic renal disease is a leading cause of death in dogs and cats” according to Royal Canine.(19)

WellyTails products are a complete combination of evidence based ingredients with effective label dosages that commonly replace 2 – 5 individual competing supplement products. WellyTails helps to prevent five common pet health problem areas:

  1. Reduces Dry Itchy Skin and Shedding Dull Coats
  2. Supports Healthy Hips, Joints and Cartilage – reduced joint pain improves older pets mobility and activity
  3. Aids the digestion of high temperature processed cereal and meat meal containing pet foods maximizing nutrient adsorption and gut transit times.
  4. Helps boost Immune System Health helping the pet fight diseases and live a longer healthier life
  5. Antioxidant Phytonutrients and Organic Chelated Minerals to counteract cancer causing “Free Radicals”

WellyTails is a complete line of life stage age specific and condition specific holistic natural dietary supplement powders. These supplement powders are formulated to be added, sprinkled on dry or made into a tasty succulent gravy, daily on top of your pet’s regular food in order to ensure that natural holistic health and life span optimizing nutrient factors are present in your pet companion’s daily diet.

WellyTails  Natural Health Factors are from natural holistic ingredients and compounds that have evidence of providing beneficial or protective pet health effects.

Although some brands of pet foods may have some of the same ingredients used in WellyTails formulas listed on their labels; the high temperatures of processing (canning or dry kibble extrusion) often results in them not being bioavailable in the amounts needed to provide health benefits. High temperature processed pet foods are dead, almost sterile foodstuffs with tightly bound up nutrients and denatured enzymes.

WellyTails  makes it possible for you to very easily, conveniently and economically “add-back-in” these lost or missing vital “Natural Health Factors” into your pet companion’s diet to insure that they have EXCELENT LONG TERM HEALTH AND A HAPPY LONG NATURAL LIFESPAN.

WellyTails  has been scientifically formulated to work with all commercially produced canned, dry kibble, BARF or Raw Meaty Bones pet foods. WellyTails is of the highest quality, most complete and multi spectrum holistic nutritional dietary supplements available today.

Marine DHA & EPA Omega-3 Factors Are Lacking
